The W.H.O , Nepal invites application from qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Surveillance Medical Officer at NO-A1/1 level for our field office outside Kathmandu Valley .
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of Medical Office -EPI as full time Surveillance Medical Officer. S/HE will be responsible to carry out the following duties :
- Provide training , technical and logistic assistance to government counterparts as needed to promote polio eradication activities , and control other vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) within designated area , in accordance with guidelines and procedures provided by the WHO and the GoN , Ministry of Health and Population , Department of Health Services (DHS) . Technical assistance is provided in the following areas:
- Planning , training , implementation and evaluation of supplemental immunization campaigns , National Immunization Days (NIDs) , sub -NIDs (SNIDs) , " mopping-up" immunization (SIAs) , including analyzing feedback from previous immunization campaigns ans assisting with the development of special strategies to address high -risk areas.
- Activities related to acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) surveillance, such as timely reporting , investigation , follow -up and response to AFP cases.
- Carry out epidemiological surveillance of AFP and other EPI target diseases as required , in collaboration with the EPI section/Child Health Division (CHD) and Epidemiology & Diseases Control Division (EDCD) of MoHP&P and otherrealted units. This includes immediate investigation of AFP cases , regular active surveillance at designated health facilities in the reporting network and careful collection & review of "Zero reports" from designated facilities in the surveillance network.
- Plan , organize and conduct orientations/meetings with government officials , professional , organizations, health staff, health volunteers . local leaders, medical colleges, non-government organizations and others to promote understandings of , support for , participation in, and effective implementation of activities related to AFP surveillance and immunization.
- Maintain up-to-date AFP case data and laboratory results for area of responsibility and submit to the IPD office and Regional Directorate Office as per program guidelines. Analyze and interpret case data for follow up actions, and keep Surveillance Coordinator informed. Prepare spot maps and present AFP case data as required.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with District Health Officer /Public Health Officer and the Regional Health Director in designated areas, as well as with other individuals and organization related to the polio eradication intiative.
- Work with counterparts across international borders as required for coordinated activities are requires to achieve polio eradication , e.g in planning and implementation SIAs , cross -border notification , investigation ,and follow -up pf AFP cases , etc.
- Provide technical assistance to improve coverage for routine immunization.
- Submit reports of activities , maintain cashbook expenditure ,and perform other administrative duties according to established WHO guidelines.
- Provide supervision to Administrative and Finance Clerk and driver.
- Perform other duties as assigned with the objective of polio eradication.
- Additional tasks as assigned by WR.
EDUCATION :
-Essentials : Medical Graduate , Masters in Public Health preferred or a Medical Graduate with Public Health experience
EXPERIENCE :
3 yrs experience in Public Health .
LANGUAGE :
Fluent knowledge of spoken and written English , spoken and written Nepali.
OTHER SKILLS :
Good management of basic computer packages : word processors, presentation tools and data sheets.
SALARY :
In accordance with UN Scales.
