Regular donors needed to meet blood demand
KATHMANDU: Nepal Red Cross Society Blood Transfusion Service today blamed the gap between demand and supply for the recent blood crunch. Blood in the blood bank has a life of only five weeks and rare blood is not stored in large volume, it reported.
Speaking at a press meet in the capital, Mukunda Bahadur Pradhan, Chairman, NRCSBTS reasoned, “The growing population combined with new hospitals and other services have increased blood demand. We need new and regular blood donors to meet the demand.”
Informing that the demand for blood stood at around 475 units per day in the Valley, NRCSBTS Director Dr Manita Rajkarnikar said, “The gap between demand and supply can be minimised if doctors seeks only component blood.”
