PM urges medicos to maintain integrity

KATHMANDU, JUL 29 - Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday stressed that health services should be village-centric to ensure the access of the poor and backward people.

Nepal asked health professionals working in health facilities in the rural areas to report to their work in time.

Speaking at a programme to mark the 121st anniversary Bir Hospital, Prime Minister Nepal said, “Health professionals shouldn’t be confined to the cities but focus on the rural areas to ensure people’s fundamental rights to health.”

In another context, Nepal directed the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) to adopt special measures to control the possible outbreak of diarrhoea epidemic in the mid-and far-western regions this year. Last year, over 300 people had died due to diarrhoea outbreak in these regions.

Nepal, who is also the Chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, which is operating the hospital, asked the medical professionals to maintain professional integrity to ensure effective health service delivery.

The prime minister said Bir Hospital should also focus on providing specialised and research-based treatment as patients can get general treatment from other hospitals as well. Nepal inaugurated Oncology Ward at the hospital and felicitated employees who served for more than 25 years. Bir Hospital was established in July 1889 by Bir Samsher Jung Bahadur Rana.
